Chocolate chip cookies were my first love, and the reason I started cooking. I’ve been working on this recipe for a long time and really love these. If cooked properly, they remain soft and moist for about a week.
01
Ingredients
- 1 cup + 1 Tbsp butter
- ⅔ cup white sugar
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda, plus another small scant
- 1 scant tsp kosher salt
- 1 bag chocolate chips
Make it yours
- Walnuts (Braxton calls these a must-have)
- 1 Tbsp molasses for a richer, almost fruity flavor
- Dried cherries for a dressier version
02
Method
- 01
Heat the oven to 350°F.
- 02
Cream the butter and both sugars.
- 03
Add the vanilla and egg, mixing the egg only a few turns around the bowl.
- 04
Fold in the salt and baking soda a couple of times.
- 05
Add the flour, chocolate chips, and any extras. Mix minimally—just until combined.
- 06
Shape into medium-large balls, about 2 tablespoons each. Lightly press them down and leave room for spreading.
- 07
Bake for 9–11 minutes, then cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before moving.
